What is meant by bleed?
What is meant by abundance? Sometimes this is technically called “bleed pages.” Abundance is nothing more than the area of the graphic that goes beyond the cut line of the label. it is necessary for the graphic to continue across the entire surface of the abundance to prevent slippage on our machines during cutting from resulting in unprinted white stripes appearing on the edge of the label itself.
Create a new inclusive document of abundance
First, create a new document in Adobe Illustrator. To do this, select “New….” from the File drop-down menu. In the window that will open select “print” [Fig.: 1.1]. Now enter the final size of your labels (Width by Height) and set the Abundance, which you will find under the name Pages to Live. We require an abundance of 2.5 mm per side. The white area of the newly created document represents the final format of your label, while the area that goes up to the red line is just the abundance.
Place elements in abundance
Arrange the graphic elements that serve as the background or are to be printed up to the edge of the label and extend them across the entire abundance [Fig.: 2.1]. To do this, use the Selection Tool to drag these elements past the cut line, down to the red line. Abundance is necessary to prevent any inaccuracy, however slight, in trimming from resulting in annoying white borders. Also take great care that important graphic elements, such as text, are placed within the safety margin-that is, at a minimum distance of 2 mm from the cut line of your label.
Set the abundance on an existing document
If you want to add the abundance on an existing document, select the “Set Document” option. Set the unit of measurement in mm and enter the value of 2.5 mm in each of the 4 fields displayed [Fig.: 3.1].
Save the PDF including abundance
It is time to save the file as a PDF. Click on Save As.. In the“Format” selection options, select Adobe PDF. It is essential that in the “Indicators and live pages” section, the option “Use live page document settings” is checked [Figure: 4.1]. Now you can save the document. The previously set abundance of 2.5mm has been automatically applied to the saved PDF file.
