Coil configuration

We explain the main parameters you need to know

  • Coil outer diameter
  • Spindle diameter
  • Winding direction
  • Height and width of the label
  • Interspace
  • Side trim

Roll labels are usually processed automatically, that is, mechanically applied to products.
Therefore, when producing roll labels, it is essential to know the requirements of the processing machine and configure the rolls accordingly.

Here are the main parameters to consider:

Coil outer diameter

The maximum coil outer diameter you can select through our calculator is 350 mm.
Upon request, we can also produce reels with larger diameters. In addition, you can choose to specify the roll size or the number of labels per roll. Defining the maximum roll size is important to ensure that the roll is perfectly compatible with your labeling machine. If no indication is given, the rolls will be packaged optimizing ecological and economic criteria.

Spindle diameter

The standard spindle diameter is 76 mm (inside diameter). Upon request, and for a small extra charge, we also offer 40 mm and 25 mm spindles. Choosing the right spindle diameter is especially important for automated machining.
The size should fit your machine perfectly. If you apply labels by hand, however, this indication is not necessary.

Winding direction

If you want to automatically process your roll adhesive labels, it is important to know which winding direction your machine requires. There are two main types of winding:

  • Inner winding (printed side facing inward)
  • External winding (printed side facing outward)

In addition, the position of the label on the reel should also be defined. Four variations are available:

  • Forward label base
  • Upper part forward
  • Left side forward
  • Right side forward

Height and width of the label

It is important to indicate the final size of the label, without considering the border of abundance.
The width and height are defined by looking at the label as it will be applied to the product. Practical example: If you need 50 x 100 mm (LxH) die-cut labels, enter these measurements into our calculator. In the print file, however, you will need to consider a size of 55 x 105 mm, including the border of abundance.

Interspace

The interspace is the distance between two consecutive labels on the backing band.
This value may vary depending on how the labels are to be processed and applied.

Standard: we produce with 5 mm interspacing between labels. Upon request, we can make rolls with reduced interspacing, but we recommend a minimum value of 3 mm so as not to compromise automatic processing and peeling.

Side trim

The side trim indicates the backing margin (trägerband) that protrudes beyond the edges of the labels. This value is relevant only for the production of roll adhesive labels.
In production on A4 sheets, however, it can be ignored.

  • Standard: 2.5 mm trim per side (5 mm total)
  • Recommended minimum: 1.5 mm per side (3 mm total)

A wider trim is available upon request.
Caution: if the trim falls below 1.5 mm per side, difficulties may occur during the stripping process (removal of waste material).
