Film Lamination: the Extra Protection for Your Labels
Your labels deserve the best: durability, strength and a quality that stands out immediately. Laminating makes your labels more durable and protects them from scratches as well as wear and tear, especially when products are handled often. Available in gloss or matte, the film protects against dirt and moisture and is perfect for industries such as cosmetics, chemicals, and beverages. In addition to improving visual appearance, lamination adds value to your product and enhances its promotional impact. And that’s not all: your labels will also have a more pleasant feel.
Film lamination enhances the quality of your product and gives it extra protection. In our online calculator you can easily select all the parameters: size, material and type of lamination. You just define your order details and upload the print file.
What Is Lamination?
When lamination is applied, both paper and plastic printing materials are coated with a protective film. At etichetta.it we use a process called wet lamination, which involves applying the film to the label using a liquid, non-self-adhesive adhesive. Using a combination of pressure, glue and UV light, the film – matte or glossy – adheres perfectly to the substrate.
The choice of film should be made according to the label material: on glossy materials a glossy film is recommended, while for matte substrates a matte film is recommended.

Lamination or Protective Varnish!
Your label deserves extra protection! You can freely choose between lamination and protective varnish.
In addition to film lamination, which protects against abrasion, oil, and moisture and makes the labels more durable, we also offer a protective varnish, either matte or gloss. This finish involves applying a liquid varnish to the surface of the label, which is then allowed to dry, providing good protection against scratches. We always recommend protective coating, however, where there are special requirements or sensitive surfaces, lamination is more suitable. For example, for metallic labels, which are subject to abrasion, lamination is always recommended.
With our premium print proof you can test both protective finishes. We produce a small run of your laminated labels with the same printing conditions as the final product, so you can check the result before placing your final order.
Limitations of Protective Lamination
It is important to know that protective coating is compatible with all of our special finishes, such as dry embossing or relief embossing. Lamination, on the other hand, cannot be combined with these processes. Also, if you plan to later print the labels with a thermal transfer printer, protective varnishing is the right choice, since lamination is not suitable for this type of printing.
Materials and Adhesives for Laminated Labels
In our online calculator you can choose from a variety of materials. While lamination is compatible with most coated materials, it is not suitable for natural or textured papers. In addition to paper, lamination can also be applied to film labels, which are ideal for superior protection. We also offer sustainable solutions for those seeking an environmentally friendly alternative with extra protection.
Depending on the use, you can choose the most suitable adhesive: we offer labels with permanent adhesive, removable labels or freezer-grade, suitable for freezer labels. Want to touch the materials and test the adhesion of laminated labels? Request our free sample book!

Fine Labels with etichetta.it: the Possibilities
By choosing labels with lamination, you can access additional finishing options. As already mentioned, lamination and protective coating offer functional protection for your labels. Moreover, you can add traditional decorative finishes: hot foil stamping, relief embossing, and blind embossing. Please note: only hot foil stamping is compatible with lamination.

Digital finishes
Labels with digital spot varnish can also be laminated with film. This clear varnish is applied only to specific areas of the label, highlighting graphic or textual details. Since it is applied digitally, without the use of embossers, it does not fall under traditional finishes.
Production, Shipping and Final Application
Printing labels with lamination requires attention, but it won’t waste your time too much! At etichetta.it you can see the real-time production and delivery times displayed in the online calculator. In some cases, an express production option is also available, so you can receive your labels with extra protection even faster. Keep in mind that production may be delayed in case of incorrect print files or if tools are needed. We offer several shipping options to meet every need.
After delivery, laminated labels can be applied manually, semi-automatically or automatically. Important: When ordering roll labels with lamination, remember to correctly specify the winding direction to ensure perfect conditions during application.
