DPG labels for export to Germany

Are you a beverage manufacturer looking to export your products to Germany? Beverage labels sold in Germany must comply with the DPG system (Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH), a deposit and refund scheme for single-use beverage containers. This system promotes recycling and the collection of bottles and cans, helping to reduce waste and make better use of resources.

At etichetta.it, we are an authorised online label manufacturer for printing DPG logo labels. The DPG logo is applied to self-adhesive labels using a special ink that can be detected only by certified deposit collection machines. Printing the DPG logo is strictly regulated and can only be carried out by certified adhesive label producers.

How to become a member of the DPG system?

To ensure your bottle stickers are recognised by the German deposit recovery system, they must include the DPG logo and a barcode featuring the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). The first step is to register with DPG (Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH) as a beverage producer. After registration, you can apply for a Global Location Number (GLN) by listing your products in the DPG database. Once you have your GLN, you can generate the GTIN, which is unique and specific to the German beverage market. Please note: You must complete the registration and obtain your GTIN before ordering DPG labels from us.

Requirements for DPG logo labels

The use of DPG logo labels has guidelines that must be strictly followed:

  1. The size of the DPG logo shall be 14 x 16 mm (width x height), including the white border. 10 x 13 mm will be reserved for the printed logo. The white border shall be 2 mm at the sides and 1.5 mm above and below.
  2. Only one DPG logo and one EAN bar code per bottle are allowed. Only EAN-13 and EAN-8 codes with a magnification factor of 0.8 to 2.0 (according to GS1 recommendations) may be used.
  3. The DPG logo must be placed above the bar code. No other orientation is allowed (take the image on the right as an example).
  4. The bottle should have a cylindrical shape. This shape ensures that machines set up to collect the security deposit can recognise the DPG logo labels on your bottles.
  5. The diameter on which the label with the DPG logo and EAN code is to be applied shall be 50 mm and no more than 120 mm. The total length of the bottle shall be between a minimum of 75 mm and a maximum of 380 mm.
