Clear labels printed on a roll
Transparent labels are an ideal choice for creating high-impact packaging, offering greater flexibility and lower costs compared to traditional screen printing (directly on bottles or jars), especially for small to medium print runs. Transparent materials can take advantage of all the benefits of digital printing, provided that all labels remain the same shape and size. It is also possible to print different references in the same print run. The digitally printed transparent roll labels transparent are used by brands and companies in many industries.
Printing the colour white (and all other colours) on transparent labels
Printing white on transparent labels is a common request. To achieve a high-quality result, we typically apply a ‘double pass’ of white ink. This technique enhances specific graphic elements and eliminates unwanted transparency. While the white ink isn’t visible on the final label, it is printed beneath other colours to preserve their intended appearance. This prevents colours from appearing translucent and simulates the effect of printing on white paper, ensuring vibrant and accurate results.
Transparent, waterproof and oil-resistant labels
The advantage of producing custom labels printed on clear polypropylene film (sometimes called “vinyl”), is that the material is completely waterproof and resistant to oils and chemicals. Another important aspect to consider is the adhesive component. Our adhesive is transparent and permanent, ideal for industrial applications. Once the label is applied, the adhesive is completely invisible.
Transparent labels and premium finish
Custom transparent label printing offers brand and business owners many design and finishing options. Graphic designers will have the option of:
- Experimenting with color transparency
- Experiment with matte protective laminations to create a “satin” look.
- Use hot foil printing
- Use sandwich printing through which you can have different graphics per side.
“No label” effect
It is important to note that we offer two variations of clear polypropylene for labels, each with subtle differences and both available in our online calculator. If you are trying to create a “no-label” effect for your brand or product, these few differences become very important. A “no-label” look is created by printing the label on 50µm clear PP with clear PET backing. It is important to note that as a label maker online, we also offer a 50µm transparent PP with paper backing.
The importance of a PET backing to create a “No-Label” effect.
Although not always visible to the naked eye, the clear PET backing is “softer” than a material such as sandpaper. As a result, when labels are removed from the roll, whether by machine or manually, the adhesive is less noticeable. When paper backings are used, the adhesive can create a slightly visible ‘milky’ layer once applied, an undesirable effect when aiming for a true no-label look.
